About Me

Patricia Wahlgren, M.A., CAPS is a gerontologist and certified aging-in-place specialist.  Her career began in architecture where she specialized in senior housing design, working on projects from Arizona to South Dakota to Florida.  A certified aging-in-place specialist since 2017, she has spent the last five years educating older adults how to age in place.

My Story

I went into Gerontology because I felt there had to be a better way to design senior housing.  What I found is that no matter how many amenities there are, no matter how upscale the finishes, it will never be HOME.  It's just housing.

With that in mind, I shifted my focus to specialize in helping older adults age in place.  I understand that aging in place is not the right choice for everyone.  Having relatives that lived to be centenarians highlighted that aging in place can help older adults live longer, even if they do not remain in their homes forever.

Aging in place looks different for everyone.  I am currently helping my own mom age in place (she's 88) and she doesn't take all my recommendations.  That's okay.  I also understand that older adults can decide what level of risk they are comfortable with.  I look forward to helping you do the same.
