Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I get an Aging in Place Assessment?

If your goal is to remain in your home for as long as possible, having the strategies and resources to accomplish that requires some planning.  As the saying goes, those who fail to plan, plan to fail.  Being able to address various areas of concern gradually allows you to spread the cost out over a greater period of time and eliminates the need to solve for a lot of issues immediately.  Addressing items before they become problems increases the odds of being able to remain independently in your home longer.

The AIP assessment is strictly for your use.  Optimal Aging Environments does not endorse or promote any specific products, so the assessment is completely unbiased.  It's up to you what recommendations from the report you choose to implement (or elect NOT to implement).

How is an Aging in Place Assessment different from a home assessment?

Simply put, it's more thorough.  An onsite aging in place assessment will completely assess the home, but it goes beyond making the physical home safe.  It goes beyond activities of daily living (ADLs) and includes instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs).  It will also cover things like management of medications, management of financial matters, transportation, the support system and more.  Aging in place isn't just about being safe in your home.  It's about thriving in your home environment and enjoying your life, not just making sure you don't fall.

Following an AIP assessment a detailed report will be provided.  All findings and results will be documented, but in addition, each area of concern will be accompanied by recommendations as well as specific information on resources and, where applicable, budget estimates.  AIP assessments and reports are completely confidential.  Details contained in them are only shared with the client unless requested otherwise.
